An irresistible treat that is surprisingly simple for even those who've never baked to be able to impress their guests! I've also included some tweaks to make this treat even more delightful.

I always thought that the melty goodness that a chocolate lava cake is was so complex to make. That is until I found this recipe. This is a chocolate lava cake recipe that you can teach a beginner to make. While it may be hard to find the perfect timing for the gooey wonders to come out, it is very possible that even your overcooked cake just becomes a delicious and decadent chocolate cake instead. Impress your loved ones (or your frenemies) with this recipe.
Ingredients:
3 oz semi-sweet chocolate (baking bar not chocolate chips) coarsely chopped
1/4 cup or 1/2 stick unsalted butter
1/8 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup powdered sugar
A pinch of salt
1 egg + 1 yolk
Optional topping or filling: ice cream, raspberries, powdered sugar, chocolate syrup, caramel, peanut butter
How to:
Spray or grease three 4 oz ramekins. Dust with cocoa powder for easy release.
Preheat oven to 425°F
Place butter and chopped chocolate in a microwavable bowl and microwave in 10 second intervals, stirring after each round until the mixture looks silky.
Whisk dry ingredients in a separate bowl (flour, powdered sugar, and salt)
Whisk the eggs and egg yolk together
Pour both the dry ingredients and whisked eggs into the chocolate and stir until smooth and thick.
Pour batter into the ramekins*
Place ramekins onto a baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes. The sides should be firm and center looking soft
Once cooled, cover with a plate and flip it over. Add toppings and serve!
*Note: If you would like to have your lava cakes filled, add in a caramel or a spoon of peanut butter before baking!
